LA City Voters - Vote “NO” on Prop S – It’s Really a Tax Hike

On election day, this coming Tuesday, February 5th, you will not only be able to vote in the presidential primary, but you will also have an opportunity to vote on certain ballot issues. If you live in the City of Los Angeles, one of the ballot issues is Proposition S, and I urge you to vote NO. This ballot proposal is deceptively billed as a tax reduction, but in reality would expand taxes on telecommunication services and open the door to taxing of your internet services. Don’t let the politicians get away with this deception. It is critical that this proposition be defeated, so please vote NO and email this information to everyone who could potentially vote in Los Angeles.

Here’s the Facts

1. Prop S would RAISE your taxes, not lower them.
Prop S would ratify tax hikes City Hall made illegally in the past. City Hall adopted certain taxes on cell phones and land lines without voters' approval, which is illegal under our state constitution and which has been struck down by two court decisions. If Prop S passes, those taxes would stay in force, and would drop from 10% to 9% -- but if Prop S fails, those taxes would disappear altogether, so they would go from 10% to ZERO percent. When coming up with the plan to have voters validate their illegal tax hike through Prop S, Mayor Villaraigosa persuaded council members to seek a 9% tax - just so they could bill it as a tax cut. That's what's so sneaky about Prop S!

Prop S would also impose a BRAND NEW TAX on DSL, wireless, text-messaging, instant-messaging, VoIP and other "new" communications services. The new tax could cover everything from a land-line telephone call to a photograph sent from a cell-phone camera to a text message sent via BlackBerry. And, it’s possible that if Prop S is approved, in the future, the city could impose other taxes on your basic internet access without getting any voter approval.

2. Prop S is unfair.
Prop S would tax YOU at 9%, but telemarketers would pay only 5%. Plus, the L.A. Times and other newspapers and radio stations would pay NO tax on cellular, wireless and internet services.

3. Prop S is unnecessary.
Despite the scare tactics, you can be sure that essential services won’t be cut if Prop S fails. Mayor Villaraigosa has repeatedly said he would protect the Los Angeles Police Department from cuts and press on with the goal of adding 1,000 officers by 2010.
Furthermore, the City of L.A. has higher taxes than any city in the county, and already takes in more revenues than ever in its history: $6.7 billion per year. Even if we repealed all cell phone and land line taxes, and hired 1,000 new police officers, the city's tax revenues would still be 21% higher than they were in 2004-05.

Meanwhile, City Hall wastes YOUR tax money on hundreds of millions of dollars per year on subsidies to downtown developers and on other wasteful spending. For example,
there are only 15 City Council members, but 108 city owned and paid-for cars assigned to those council members' offices. That’s over 7 cars per council member. In addition, $66 million in taxpayer subsidies will go to the out-of-state developers of the Grand Avenue luxury shopping and hotel project downtown and $270 million in tax breaks — the very amount city officials cite as the upcoming budget shortfall — is going to AEG, which developed the ritzy L.A. Live entertainment venue downtown. These are just a few examples of how LA government wastes your tax dollars. So why should you pay higher taxes while the special interests get perks and big tax breaks?
And to add insult to injury, the City is squandering $5.1 million to put Prop S on the ballot as a special election when they could have saved that money and just added Prop S to the next regular municipal election. But that’s not until April of 2009. Apparently, the City Council just can’t wait to get its hands on your hard earned dollars.
Other cities thrive with no phone taxes. Did you know that Beverly Hills, Thousand Oaks and San Diego have no phone tax? The same goes for Atlanta, Boston, and Philadelphia. As for cities that do impose phone taxes, New York’s tax is just 2.4%; Long Beach and Las Vegas charge 5%; and Burbank and Portland charge 7%. So why must we pay 9%?
Prop S is a big rip-off. Vote no, and PLEASE email everyone you know who lives in Los Angeles and tell them to do the same. The special interests behind Prop S have put up $2.3 million for a misleading advertising campaign. We taxpayers, by contrast, have to let one another know. We need to get the word out or the deceptive title and wording of Prop S will probably lead many uninformed voters to vote yes and that means higher taxes for us all.
Fire Performers PLEASE READ - Wed. Town Hall Meeting

Hello!
please repost this to any fire performers you know, There are some important
issues facing the fire community, and we need to get the word out quick, and
there is an important Town Hall meeting wednesday.

In addition, there is a new discussion list for fire performers to discuss tips,
community interests, events, and more at:

http://www.curiousjosh.com/lafire

please sign up, more information about the list is below.

----
*Subject*: Town Hall Meeting: A Call to Arms for all Los Angeles Based Fire
Artists

*Where*: Smash Labs, 1714 Albion St, Los Angeles, CA 90031 323-227-6274

*When*: Doors open at 7pm Meeting begins at 8pm

*Who*: All members of the Los Angeles Based Fire Arts Community

*Why*: During recent interactions with Los Angeles County and State _Fire
Marshalls <http://www.film.ca.gov/LocationResources/FilmSafety.html>_we have
learned that they are in the process of designing a set of safety standards
and guidelines in an effort to standardize safety requirements within our
industry. These safety guidelines are to be implemented in the first
quarter of 2008.

We have the great fortune that our local county Fire Marshalls have
offered to allow us participate in the design of these standards.
Organizations such as the Safety Advisory for Fire and FX in Entertainment
(SAFFE)and members of the Pyrotechnics community have offered to provide
guidance or advice in the different methods of organizing ourselves and
interfacing with regulatory and enforcement entities such as the Fire
Department.

This *_Wednesday, December 12, 2007_* a Town Hall Meeting has been called to
inform the community and discuss the formation an organization comprised of
members representing the interests of the Los Angeles fire community.

******It is time for us all to come together, as a community - to openly
create our own guidelines that address issues, such as safety, performance
standards, etc. It is of the utmost importance that we collectively decide
this before it is decided for us*****

In Addition, there is a new e-mail discussion list for
fire artists and people who are interested in fire performance in the Los
Angeles area. This list can be joined by following this link:

http://www.curiousjosh.com/lafire

This list is an opportunity for us to stay in touch as a community, and
discuss a number of pressing issues that are affecting the Los Angeles fire
community such as the upcoming implementation of safety regulations,
standards, and restrictions governing our industry.

The LA Fire mailing list will be a great place to:
discuss issues affecting the fire community
share fire related tips and techniques
communicate about fire events in the LA area
and more

Please spread the word by continuing to forward this to fire performers who
are in Los Angeles, or who visit Los Angeles and perform with fire. If we
fail in this initiative then viewpoints such as "Poi is the most dangerous
tool in your arsenal" or the potential banning of poi spinning in the
direction of the audience may become a reality.

Troupes & Tool Manufacturers that have involvement in this initiative have
included: CuriousJosh, Fire Drums, Fire Groove, Los Angeles Fire Effects (LAFX),
Machina
Candeo, Mutaytor, Phoenix Projekt, Pyrophernalia / Om Fire, Sirena
Serpentina, Trick Concepts, & Volcano Flux.

*_Directions:
_*
SmashLabs
1714 Albion Street (entrance is here - big red door with cut metal numbers -
push down on the lever to enter)
The "back" door is a big roll door in the last parking lot on the North side
of Main just before the train tracks - look for the La Mano Press sign. If
it's full, there is an empty lot directly across the street on the South
side of Main Street, or feel free to park on Main or Albion and come in the
front. *main thing to remember is if you've gone over the tracks, you've
passed Albion which is a TINY street and easy to miss.

*GoogleMaps:
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=1714+Albion+St,+Los+Angeles,+CA+90031,+USA&ie=UTF8&z=16&iwloc=addr&om=1

*
1714 Albion St,
Los Angeles, CA 90031 - it's the triangular space that starts on Main and
back up on Albion
323-22S-MASH (323-227-6274) is the office phone which I'll have on me in
case anyone gets lost.

*
"There are risks and costs to a program of action. But they are far less
than the long-range risks and costs of comfortable inaction."

This will be our fifth FireDrums gathering and we've planned more workshops for fire and flow arts, drumming, yoga and even a Reiki circle. The Santa Cruz redwoods are both incredibly energizing and yet at the same time magically peaceful and serene. This being our fourth year and the fifth gathering, we have grown a wonderful collective of volunteers to help organize and make this opportunity the best possible learning and sharing experience. Please check out the web site and tribe @ ~ http://firedrums.org ~ http://firedrums.tribe.net

Yoga for a Cause - Help Lou Genise

Please Join Us for the 1st Ever…
Yoga for a Cause
In Honor of Lou Genise

Yoga provides us with a moment to pause our busy lives and focus internally on connecting breath with movement. It is a sacred time dedicated to bringing light into the body and spirit. This light is a seed that once planted has the power to change the world!

Join us one day out of each month as we focus our intention on helping and healing a community member in need. It’s a beautiful gift of kindness and compassion from the heart and it will leave you feeling strong, healthy, and filled with positivity. Donations will be collected at the end of class and given straight to the person in need.

Please come out and spread some love to yourself and others this coming Monday the 14th of August from 10:30 to 11:45 at Runyon Canyon Dog park at the top of La brae just South of Franklin Blvd. In Hollywood. You can make a difference!
Click for a map:
maps.yahoo.com/maps_result

IN HOROR OF LOU GENISE
Lou Genise has just been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, had 70% of his colon removed, and was just informed that it has spread throughout his lymph nodes. The prognosis from his doctors was grim, giving him a 10% chance of survival after 1 year. Lou is an amazing man who is only 35 years old.

Now being that Lou is an artist, that means that he doesn't have a health plan, 401k, or any stock options to cash in. What he does have is tremendous spirit.
You can find out more about Lou at helplou.com/main.html

Lou is not the type of person to solicit donations or ask for help. He is the type of person who would rather take it on himself. Unfortunately, he has been laid up for the last 3 weeks with a huge scar running down his stomach from the operation, and unable to move freely yet… which means he needs our help!

KNOW SOMEONE WHO NEEDS OUR HELP?
We want to hear about it! Once your friend or loved one has been selected, we need your help in encouraging all of your friends, family members, co-workers, and community to come out to enjoy a beautiful and uplifting class that will make a difference in yours and somebody else’s life. Even if you aren’t able to donate monetarily, your healing energy is just as important!

WHO ARE WE?
Sisters Hannah and Kamala have been teaching free yoga at Runyon Canyon for over three years. Their brother Lester has just joined them teaching fire dancing and practicing yoga. Together their goal is to create a community that encourages people to make a difference in the world starting inside with themselves.

Abundant blessings of Health and Happiness,

tears of fright
tears of sadness
tears of loss
tears of frustration
tears of disappointment
tears of loneliness
Lands are flooded with our tears
We need one another’s
kindness, cooperation, trust and respect
to survive.

"Hope and Fear" and The Web of Dreams

Sacred geometry, universal energy, IBVA experiments linked with real time video, the opportunity to study yourself and others in a lucid REM state with state of the art equipment, recorded experiences, thousands of lights, music and more create “The Web Of Dreams”! An Interactive art piece symbolizing the connection of all things and how what you choose affects everything. It is designed to generate life-changing breakthroughs!
Allow yourself while in the Web to work through your fear and be inspired to make new empowering choices that create more hope for your future! Those who choose to be wrapped and suspended in the Web may discover that resistance creates the persistence of fear but acceptance allows for the disappearance of fear. Shed your fixed beliefs and ways of being while inside the Web and step into a new world of increased hope and possibility!
The web will offer up personal truths, it will offer up hope and dreams, it will offer a true reflection of how what you choose (hope or fear) affects the outcome of your future in a clear representation in the present moment.
“The Web of Dreams” will be placed 1300ft from the man at 1:30. We will have 2 scheduled events on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 pm to midnight. The first, spider races, two people are attached at the torso creating one eight legged spider. They then have to work together to make it to the other side of the Web. The second event is Bumper bubbles. One of ten fans will fill your personal bubble with air and after it is sealed you will then bounce, bump and run into the other participates in their personal bubbles.
We got a late start on this idea but we know, with some help from the community, we can still pull it off (no fear only hope). We have most everything we need but if the opportunity to assist others in breaking through their fear and gaining more hope and possibility inspires you we invite you to become a part of the “Web Team” and help in anyway you can. We are looking for people to fill volunteer shifts, donate money (we still need over $1,000) or any supplies we still need please contact me on Tribe or directly:
CLAYTON AND TERRY ALLRED
801-523-7094
For more info on the “Web Of Dreams” or to donate few dollars today(every little bit will help)by Pay Pal check out the web site at: http://webofdreams.home.comcast.net/
I truly look forward to the most amazing experience on the Playa with you and may all of your fears serve you in the end to achieve all your hopes!
Love,
Clayton

Lou Genise, a member of the phoenix projekt needs help. Last week, lou was taken to the emergency room after vomiting blood. After many tests, it was determined that he had colon cancer. Now, it looks as though it has spread to his liver.
Lou does not have insurance, or any kind of 401K to cash in, he's an artist like many of us.
Please check out www.helplou.com
He has had most of his colon removed and still needs more treatment. But the tough part is that he wont be able to work for a while, and still needs to pay rent and buy meds.
Any donation that you can make would be greatly appreciated, be it financial, emotional, or even your prayers.

you can see him in this video clip, he's on the left

Please check out www.helplou.com

thanks from the phoenix projekt.

free furniture in Santa Monica

Hey ya'll,

I am moving in a week or so and we are finally letting some of the college days furniture go. I have the following pieces available if you want them, or you know someone who might (college kids or struggling artists are prime suspects). If you are interested, let me know and I can email pics. I will be honest- this isn’t top of the line stuff. But it’s worked well for me, and it’s free. Never underestimate the magic that be made with a fresh coat of paint. Indeed, that is how I salvaged a lot of this stuff from its former life as fake woodgrain finish or some other such atrocity.

Black entertainment center with glass doors- in good shape, except that the doors have come off. I still have the doors, if you want to try and repair it. I just used it without the doors. It will fit a 36 inch tv, has a cd rack, small shelves on the side for DVDs, and shelving for electronics.

Black desk- with attached shelf. It was water damaged, so I painted it black. Nice design, but the finish could use a new coat of paint.

All free for the taking. You pick up within the next week or so.

FireDrums Gathering - April 13 -16 '06'

I wasn't going to post to other tribes this year as there were so many who knew about the gathering.
But there still seems to be some people asking about where and when, so here ya go.
This is not a party, rave or any kind of an 'organized money making event'.
Last year there were more than 350 fire artist and drummers, all there just to play, learn, share and make new friends in the fire arts and drum community.
You don't have to join the tribe to participate, but here's where you'll find the info and discussions;
http://firedrums.tribe.net/
There's many more people coming from SoCal this year so ride shares should be easy to work out.
This is so much more than just a big spin jam,,,,, last year was truly amazing!
Please join us!

ShapeShifters--Tribal Breaks & Bellydancing - Sat.

An invitation to ShapeShifters--a night of transforming beings....

Hello Beautiful Peeps, Bellydancers, Art Mavens, Fashionistas and Delirious Denizens of the Underground Dance Scene

We have a delicious Tribal-Funky Freakfest to offer you this Saturday night…It’s an art and dance party that will leave you grateful that ya mama gave you an admission ticket to life.

For years, David Starfire and I have been DJing some sweet and crazy events (mostly in the Bay Area) where Breakbeats merge with World Dance Beatz. We have been wanting to create more of these Ethno Tribal Dance events here for our Southern California Dance Community.

Shapeshifters is the first such collaboration.

At ShapeShifters there will be an indoor room devoted to Funky Breaks with local legends Patricio, Ooah, David and Christian. Then outside, on the patio, the music will be devoted to delicious groovy Breaks and Tribal Beatz with strong flavas of India, Arabia and Africa.

If you love to Belly Dance or if you love Tribal Drums and Rhythms, you will want to visit the patio! Joining me there on the World Dance Beatz Crew will be Dandelion, Imagika and Tamer.

Dandelion has DJed across much of India. DJ Imagika is a belly dancer herself. Tamer's family is from Egypt, so he knows how to support you in the shimmy and shake. I have DJed Ethno Tribal dance sets across the country for crowds of over a thousand dancers (see my tribe photo album for the fun dance pixs). So we are prepared to dish it out for ya!

At 11:00 on the patio, I will be playing a set that will be begin BellydanceFunkySensual and will build to rock your sexy asses with bootie slammin Tribal Breaks and Beatz!

Out of respect for the neighborhood, we will have to chill out the music on the patio at about 1:00 AM. --- SO IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE OUR EROTIC EXOTIC PATIO DANCE SCENE, PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY.

The artists reception begins at 6:00. Come before 10:00 pm and you save $5.

DJ times
Outside
10:00-11:00 Imagika
11:00-12:00 Patrick Harvard
12:00-1:00 Dandelion
(then, if we can get away with downtempo, lower volume sound outside after 1:00 AM)
1:00-2:00 Dandelion
2:00-3:15 Tamer & Imagika

I miss all you freaks and we haven't been nearly ubiquitous enough lately. What say we all try to get down to dockweiler on the 6th, for that beach burn?

I'll be there at 4 to watch some students kick ass, then I'm gonna go play. Hope you can make it.

Hello folks! I am what is called a "Mediascape Artist" which means I provide VJ services (projections of cool video art/animations) while simultaneously DJing my original music. I will be performing at Burning Man at Sanctuary Village (4:30 and Catharsis) at 9:30 pm and I am opening up for the legendary Karsh Kale! I will be performing in a 30 foot multimedia dome at Camp Jyoti.

I would be delighted to have some belly dancers, fire dancers, anyone who loves tribal electronic music--to come join me. Please feel free to listen to the tracks I have been writing for the last couple weeks just for this special event:

http://www.psykickgirl.com/sanctuary/

Please free free to drop me a line at mckenna@psykickgirl.com to let me know what you thought of the music and if you can try to stop by. it will be very exciting and fun!

fire staff classes with Ryan

So here are the details, classes will be held THURSDAY nights in North Hollywood, at the park on Tujunga, just north of riverside, starting at 7 o' clock on the 23rd. (whew!) we'll go until at least 8:30.

This will allow us the luxury of having much more Anna Maltese assistance. Those who have seen her spin, or learned from her will understand why this is a good good thing.

Here comes the text you may have already read,

If you've ever had any interest in learning how to spin a staff, now's the time. I'm really excited, as I have been studying the art of learning how to learn, and I think I can help you get proficient much faster than you would have thought possible.

We'll cover all the basic kinetics and theory like normal, but we'll also get into a little of the science of programming your mind to set yourself up to succeed. This does work, you can be ready to rock by the Burn. It's up to you, I think you can.

This class will be suitable for both beginner and intermediates. If you already have an understanding of the "rules" of staffing, we'll work on how to break them properly.

We'll also cover what it means to be a performer, rather than just a spinner.

Staffing has so many benefits. It's a fantastic workout, it calms and clears your mind. And when you start lighting up, it increases your sexy quotient exponentially. Which helps your confidence, which will affect every area of your life positively.

Speaking of sexy, most nights I will also have the amazing benefit of having the amazing Anna Maltese on hand to assist. Pretty much an amazing two for one.

Classes will be in North Hollywood on THURSDAY nights from 7 til 8:30. The park is on Tujunga, south of magnolia. Look for a red flag, or possibly a shade structure. Cost will be 20 dollars a class, or $100 dollars for six. Privates also available. I am open to a few tradeouts, try me.

Thanks, really looking forward to it,

Ryan

Hi there everyone.. so we have an official hoop down night at the Hookah dome (and the Deep End TBA) on Thursday evening (sundown). The Hookah Dome is located on the Esplanade. I will post the exact location when I get it. They have some gogo platforms as well as lots of ground space and will play whatever we want. Their djs play everything from Breaks to ambient to trance so we can also just request something. They are really excited to have all of us hoopers so I hope we can get as many hoopers there as possible!

see you in the dust!

Spammers MUST DIE!

After thoughts from the Yahoo group posts;

So I was just chatting with brotha Jes about building a full size bus, truck, RV, whatever, that would just roll up and from each end a huge speaker stack would extend up on top and a DJ booth up from the middle.
Then the side would open up into a bar.
Jesse said 'When I win the lotto, we're gonna hook up and make it happen'.

So that's a kool dream that we'll keep dreamin into reality someday.

On another note, I'm thinkin when I win the lotto, I'm gonna hire the best computer / communication team to begin working out a system of tracking down where all this spam comes from then hire a hit team to kidnap them all and take them to a remote prison where they are surrounded by big screens with audio constantly blasting them at 120dB with all there own spam.
Then suddenly stop, and after a few seconds of dead silence, crank up Laurence Welk and Muzak elevator music.
Just keep on alternating between the two for about a month straight, 24 / 7.
Then we'll see if they might have a new outlook on their 'spamming game'.

OK, off to buy my lotto tix.

peace yall!

Open fire safety seminar and demo!

The Phoenix Projekt Fire Conclave will be hosting a fire safety seminar and demo open to the community, and everyone's invited to attend. A Marx Bros. representative (no relation to Groucho, Chico, Harpo, or Gummo) will be on hand to demonstrate proper use and handling of extinguishers, as well as to share knowledge from one of the most respected names in the fire safety business.

Points to be covered include, but are not limited to:

*Proper use, storage, and handling of safety equipment and fuels.
*Which type of extinguisher to use on which type of fire.
*Flash and flame points of various fuels, and discerning the differences between these.
*Regulations (county and otherwise) governing safety equipment and practices.

Finally, at the end of the course, each person will take a turn choosing an extinguisher and using it to put out a contained 6' x 6' inferno. (And if you think spinning fire is exciting - as it definitely is - just wait 'til you get to put a huge one out!)

The fee for the class is $15, which covers recharging of equipment as well as the chemical replacement.

The location is: 10275 Sunland Blvd., in Shadow Hills (just off the 210 fwy.) The time and date will be June 12th, at 12:00 noon. Richard (the Marx Bros. rep) will notify the fire dept. of the event. See you there!

juicy friday

Hey all, you may remember Dcjuicy from such Wolfie parties as "Where the wild things are"

Well, we have another show this friday the 29th. And it will be the full show, on a huge stage. We'd love to have you come out and witness the madness that is us, www.DCjuicy.com

It's a mix of spinal tap, rap, and God knows whatever else shows up that week. It is way, way over the top. Once it was a gay indian midget leading a demon by a leash, once it was a one armed girl singing "Take my hand". (The Christian coalition loves us)

The show is at the Ivar theatre, Coincidentally located on Ivar street, just between hollywood and Selma. doors open at 8:30.

And as an added bonus, we'll be having an afterparty at the velvet margarita, right around the block. The VM is this very very cool restaurant/bar on Cahuenga. Really fun inside, and great food.

The BEST part is that we have arranged a lockout from 2 to 5. Yep, we'll have the whole bar to ourselves. this means we can spin fire in the back, and be with our nearest and dearest til dawn.

Hope to see you there

NextAid is a Los Angeles based non-profit organization dedicated to creating sustainable solutions for African children orphaned as a result of AIDS. By partnering with other organizations in the production of music benefits and awareness raising activities, NextAid channels emergency and long-term aid to African children in need.

NextAid is committed to represent the international dance community as the charity promoting an effective and practical response to the AIDS pandemic. NextAid aims to inspire people into tangible action, taking responsibility and making a difference. We believe it is each generation's responsibility to create a better future for the next.

More specifically about our pilot project:

Our pilot project is the building of an earth-friendly multi-purpose center for children orphaned by AIDS, for the youth group, Youth With A Vision (YWAV), and the larger community, in a poverty stricken township called Dennilton, 2 hours outside of Johannesburg. YWAV are determined to stop the spread of AIDS to their peers. They use theater and music to teach AIDS awareness and other critical issues. The HIV/AIDS rate in this part of South Africa is approximately 37%!

We are working with Eco-Architect Joe Kennedy to create this center that will be a showcase of green building design and a template for many such centers throughout the continent. It will be a place where resources can be concentrated, where aid can be efficiently distributed, where environmental education will be emphasized, and where the youth can reach their individual and collective potential.

HELP US HELP OTHERS....

THIS IS GOING TO BE AN AMAZING EVENT GOOD MUSIC, FRIENDS, DRINKS AND AN OCEAN OF POSSIBILITIES....

Friday, April 15 2005 - Sunday, April 17 2005
Red White & Blue Beach near Sana Cruz
http://firedrums.tribe.net/

A fire arts and hand drummers gathering.
This is not a 'festival' nor is it a BurningMan sponsored event.
This is just a casual fun weekend where we can meet new and reunite with old friends of the fire arts and drumming community.
For those who haven't yet experienced RW&B, it's a beautiful secluded beach with camping amenities near Santa Cruz that is fire friendly.

Although we'll certainly be dancing and playing with our friends, please be aware that this is NOT A RAVE or dance party.
We hope to have a DJ 'part' of the time but RW&B is under new management & we're still feelin things out.

Please DO NOT FORWARD this to lists out side 'our' community.
Please DO forward this to our fire friends and drummers and we'll see you mid April for a very special weekend.

Please join the FireDrums tribe http://firedrums.tribe.net/ and post questions, suggestions, ride share info and anything else there.

And of course this is a LEAVE NO TRACE GATHERING!

6 miles north of Santa Cruz on Hwy 1 at Scaroni Rd.
Red White & Blue Beach
Subject: GIG-ANNOUNCE: LA Burner Community
Burning Burner Burn (for non-Burners too!)

The Burner community in LA can't be all about the
zebra-striped cowboy hats, theme camp fundraisers,
and partying like a rock star, can it?
No way! It's still about the fire and radical self-promotion too!

Presenting: "The Psychology of Pyrolysis",
an execution of flammable artwork by K'Buster Friendly
Sunday, February 20th 8:00 - 11:00
Dockweiler Beach, southern fire ring

The big brain sculpture gets set on fire at 8:00pm
Parking costs $5, and the lot generally closes at 10pm,
(cars parked up on PCH start getting ticketed about that time too).

Bring something to sit on, smore fixins, and your various
LA Burner Community related accessories.
Those who drum and those who spin fire are invited
to bring their gear.
Tipping your local flammable art perpetrators is encouraged.

Hey beautiful people,

Anna and I picked up a random gig doing the spinny stuff at a very cool new club called forbidden city. We may be working with the promoters very extensively in the future, so we would be most honored if you would come out to support the event.

The party is in honor of Chinese New year, and it looks to be very cool. And it's from 6:30 to 9:30 so all you worker bees can get back to the hive at a reasonable hour.

We are trying to set it up that if you say you are there with RED LOTUS, (us) you will get in for only ten bucks. Which when you factor in the free food and 5 minute massage, is a sweet little deal. What else ya gonna' do on wedneday anyway?

Any of you talented spinner types that wish to come down and be spinny, talk to me about a comp. Free food!

Here's a link to the website,
http://www.jetsetsociety.us/la/EventView.asp?event_id=44&

Thank you,

Ryan.

Here's some of the attractions,
"- sexy performers doing traditional Chinese rituals in honor of heaven and earth (all night),
- a unicycle-riding, plate spinning Chinese acrobat (show at 7:15),
- generous complementary Chinese hors d’ oeuvres (including chicken chow main, egg rolls, won tons, and potstickers),
- Free 5 minute massages and a drawing for full massages from our expert masseur,
- drink specials, and much more!

The Do LaB brings you …
Lucent L ’Amour - A celebration of love in the highest light.

Deep in the isle of the French Tahitian waters in the village of Renegat, a magical tribal girl, Lucent, beats a lone drum for her aching heart. The tribal leaders have cast the boy she loves to sea. His crime is a love so fierce he is unable to work, unable to focus on anything but the beauty of Lucent. He rows his tiny banana boat through the rugged waters of the great Pacific. He never wanders too far away, he swirls in the deep and delirius sea, he stays close enough to feel the beating of her drum, the beating of her drum.

Do you miss the fireplayce already? Do you still want to light up this tues.?
Well, since I do, I figure the peeps can come over to my place for a little fire fun. I have a nice sized backyard. It's grassy and has about the same amount of space that we play in in hollywood. I also have deck chairs for when your not spinning.
My house is about 10 minutes north of the playspace in North Hollywood. Take the 170 North, exit at Oxnard and go right (east). Go 2 blocks and go left (north). Go to 6309 Carpenter Ave.

We have decided that it's a really good idea to try to put on a 30 person show with 2 day notice. DC JUICY is playing the Ivar this friday at 8:30. And we thought it would be interesting to find out what it would look like if a chinese lion got stoned.

So here we are. If you want to come to a kickass comedy show, dress in your TRIPPIEST/SEXIEST/MINDBLOWINGeSTplaya gear, and add to the already over the top onstage madness of DC JUICY,

Well, you can.

Basically we'd like to humbly ask the local burner community if anybody would like to come play with us. You'd pretty much just be being your beautiful playafied self, interacting and reacting to other beautiful freaks like yourself.

And we have the lounge next door for the after party, it used to be called the opium den. This party will rock. Surprise DJ's out the wazoo.

You'll get in to the show for free, and meet some fantastically cool kids to play with.

Please tribe me if available.

Thanks!

R

Revocation of Independence Letter From John Cleese

Revocation of Independence Letter From John Cleese

To the citizens of the United States of America:
In the light of your failure to elect a competent President of the USA and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective today.
Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths and other territories.
Except Utah, which she does not fancy. Your new prime minister (The Right Honourable Tony Blair, MP for the 97.85% of you who have until now been unaware that there is a world outside your borders) will appoint a Minister for America without the need for further elections.
Congress and the Senate will be disbanded.

A questionnaire will be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed.
To aid in the transition to a British Crown Dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:

1. You should look up "revocation" in the Oxford English Dictionary.
Then look up "aluminium". Check the pronunciation guide. You will be amazed at just how wrongly you have been pronouncing it.
The letter 'U' will bereinstated in words such as 'favour' and 'neighbour', skipping the Letter 'U' is nothing more than laziness on your part. Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without skipping half the letters. You will end your love affair with the letter 'Z' (pronounced 'zed' not 'zee') and the suffix "ize" will be replaced by the suffix "ise". You will learn that the suffix'burgh
is pronounced 'burra' e.g. Edinburgh.
You are welcome to respell Pittsburgh as 'Pittsberg' if you can't cope with correct pronunciation.
Generally, you should raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels. Look up
"vocabulary".
Using the same twenty seven words interspersed with filler noises such
as "like" and "you know" is an unacceptable and inefficient form of
communication. Look up "interspersed". There will be no more 'bleeps'
in the Jerry Springer show. If you're not old enough to cope with bad
language then you shouldn't have chat shows. When you learn to develop your vocabulary then you won't have to use bad language as often.

2. There is no such thing as "US English". We will let Microsoft know
on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take
account of the reinstated letter 'u' and the elimination of "-ize".

3. You should learn to distinguish the English and Australian accents.
It really isn't that hard. English accents are not limited to cockney,
upper-class twit or Mancunian (Daphne in Frasier). You will also have
to learn how to understand regional accents - Scottish dramas such as
"Taggart" will no longer be broadcast with subtitles. While we're talking about
regions, you must learn that there is no such place as Devonshire in
England. The name of the county is "Devon". If you persist in calling
it Devonshire, all American States will become "shires" e.g. Texasshire,
Floridashire, Louisianashire.

4. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as
the good guys. Hollywood will be required to cast English actors to play
English characters. British sit-coms such as "Men Behaving Badly" or "Red
Dwarf" will not be re-cast and watered down for a wishy-washy American
audience who can't cope with the humour of occasional political incorrectness.

5. You should relearn your original national anthem, "God Save The
Queen", but only after fully carrying out task 1. We would not want you to get
confused and give up half way through.

6. You should stop playing American "football". There is only one kind
of football. What you refer to as American "football" is not a very good
game. The 2.15% of you who are aware that there is a world outside your
borders may have noticed that no one else plays "American" football. You will
no longer be allowed to play it, and should instead play proper football.
Initially, it would be best if you played with the girls. It is a difficult
game. Those of you brave enough will, in time, be allowed to play rugby
(which is similar to American "football", but does not involve stopping for
a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full Kevlar body armour like
nancies). We are hoping to get together at least a US Rugby sevens
side by 2005. You should stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an
event called the 'World Series' for a game which is not played outside
of America. Since only 2.15% of you are aware that there is a world
beyond your borders, your error is understandable. Instead of baseball, you will be allowed to play a girls' game called "rounders" which is baseball
without fancy team strip, oversized gloves, collector cards or hotdogs.

7. You will no longer be allowed to own or carry guns. You will no
longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous in public than a
vegetable peeler. Because we don't believe you are sensible enough to handle potentially dangerous items, you will require a permit if you wish to
carry a vegetable peeler in public.

8. July 4th is no longer a public holiday. November 2nd will be a new
national holiday, but only in England. It will be called "Indecisive Day".

9. All American cars are hereby banned. They are crap and it is for
your own good. When we show you German cars, you will understand what we mean. All road intersections will be replaced with roundabouts. You will start driving on the left with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric with immediate effect and without the benefit of conversion tables. Roundabouts and metrication will help you understand the British sense of humour.

10. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call French
fries are not real chips. Fries aren't even French, they are Belgian though
97.85% of you (including the guy who discovered fries while in Europe) are not aware of a country called Belgium. Those things you insist on calling
potato chips are properly called "crisps". Real chips are thick cut and fried
in animal fat. The traditional accompaniment to chips is beer which
should be served warm and flat. Waitresses will be trained to be more aggressive with customers.

11. As a sign of penance 5 grams of sea salt per cup will be added to
all tea made within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, this quantity to be
doubled for tea made within the city of Boston itself.

12. The cold tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not
actually beer at all, it is lager. From November 1st only proper British Bitter will be referred to as "beer", and European brews of known and accepted
provenance will be referred to as "Lager". The substances formerly known as
"American Beer" will henceforth be referred to as "Near-Frozen Knat's Urine",
with the exception of the product of the American Budweiser company whose
products will be referred to as "Weak Near-Frozen Knat's Urine". This will
allow true Budweiser (as manufactured for the last 1000 years in Pilsen, Czech Republic) to be sold without risk of confusion.

13. From November 10th the UK will harmonise petrol (or "Gasoline" as
you will be permitted to keep calling it until April 1st 2005) prices with
the former USA. The UK will harmonise its prices to those of the former
USA and the Former USA will, in return, adopt UK petrol prices
(roughly $6/US gallon - get used to it).

14. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns,
lawyers or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists
shows that you're not adult enough to be independent. Guns should only be handled by adults. If you're not adult enough to sort things out without suing
someone or speaking to a therapist then you're not grown up enough to handle a gun.

15. Please tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us crazy.

16. Last but not the least, and for heaven's sake.....it's Nuclear as
in "clear" NOT Nucular.

Tax collectors from Her Majesty's Government will be with you shortly to
ensure the acquisition of all revenues due (backdated to 1776).
Thank you for your co-operation and have a great day.

Hey all -
Hope '04 treated you all well. The first playtime in '05 is on for tonight, Tuesday, 9-12. For those of you in Rayna's hoop dance class, that is from 6-9 tonight, so we'll see you there!!
EVERYONE PLEASE park on the street!! DO NOT park in the alley, as it makes it very congested back there and hard to drive through the alley. Blocking a city alley is illegal and we don't need to attract any more attention to ourselves than we already do.
Also - Playtime will be every other week for a while instead of every week. I will put notice out each week here on tribe to remind everyone.
See you soon & Happy New Year!!

ABOUT INTERNET TICKETS
Secure delivery - If you choose to have your ticket mailed we strongly suggest that you opt for secure delivery. It has a tracking number and you have to sign for it. Please understand that we cannot be responsible for lost tickets which were sent regular mail.

Methods of Online Payment
We prefer that you use Direct Account Debit or PayPal to purchase your tickets. Using these methods in lieu of credit cards helps to keep the Burning Man cash flow moving throughout the year so we can plan and build BRC. It is important that we have access to funds throughout the year, unfortunately credit cards put us at the mercy of a 3rd party who controls a portion of our funds. Direct Debit and PayPal allow us to avoid using the 3rd party.

1. Direct Account Debit (ACH) orders:
a. Only U.S. bank accounts are eligible for Direct Account Debit purchases.
b. Direct Account Debit operates the same way an e-check or debit card works. Funds are withdrawn directly from your bank account. This transaction occurs on a secure server with all information encrypted while you purchase.
c. We will record your driver license information for your security and none of your information is shared or stored.
d. Only the amount of the transaction is withdrawn from your account.
e. You can use a checking or savings account and there is no setup required or additional fees on your end. You simply enter in your account information when asked for it. You will need your checking or savings account number and routing number, so have a blank check or your savings account register in front of you when placing your order.
f. If you need help finding your account numbers or if you have any questions about how this works with your account, please contact your bank before attempt

THERE WILL BE A $15 CHARGE FOR INSUFFICIENT FUNDS IF YOU ATTEMPT TO USE THIS METHOD WITHOUT ENOUGH MONEY IN YOUR ACCOUNT.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS METHOD OF PAYMENT WILL NOT WORK WITH NON-U.S. BANK ACCOUNTS!

2. PayPal orders:
a. DO NOT GO THROUGH THE PAYPAL SITE TO ATTEMPT TO PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS. YOUR ORDER MUST GO THROUGH THE BURNING MAN WEBSITE.
b.If you do not have a PayPal account, set one up WELL BEFORE tickets go on sale. Go here to read about PayPal and set up an account. www.paypal.com
c.For those who do not wish to set up a PalPal account, you can also pay with credit card through PayPal WITHOUT actually having a PayPal account - to use this method select "credit card" at checkout and follow the instructions. FYI: THIS WILL NOT WORK IF YOU HAVE A PRE-EXISTING PAYPAL ACCOUNT ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS!

TICKET DELIVERY
Mailing options for online orders:

1.Secure Delivery (first class signature confirmation) Cost: $10.00 *recommended

2.Regular U.S. mail (not responsible if lost in mail) Cost: $5.00

3.Will Call (held at front gate of event, requires ID) Cost: $3.50

International Orders

Please remember that we do not mail to countries outside the U.S. and Canada. All other international orders will be held at will call (at no extra charge). You will be given instructions via email on how to pick up your ticket.

Okay Angelinos. Winnter is here, and so is snow in the Mtns.
So what I propose is a a saturday night ski and boarding party at Mtn. High in Writewood. It's an hour and twenty minute drive from Hollywood. The night time lift ticket price is about $28 which lasts from 4-10pm (it's a lot less crowded at night). They have rentals if you need it too.
The bullwheel bar is open till midnight or so, and has a live band a lot of times.
This is how I spent most of my saturday nights last year and it was a blast. I was there this sat. and there was snow everywhere. The mtn. isn't huge, but at nite the lines are short, the beer is cold, and there is fun everywhere.
I figure maybe a sat. nite in January.
